I think the most important question readers of this article should be asking is why are minority groups getting crap scores on these tests? I seriously doubt it's anything to do with certain racial groups being naturally predisposed to mathematical inability.

Note: this is a test for police recruits, and there has been a lot of racially orientated controversy surrounding police actions in the not so distant past, and so I think one of the most important factors to consider in police recruitment is their race. It isn't ridiculous to suggest that racial minorities will be more responsive to officers of their own ethnic background especially since in poorer areas where minorities are.., well, in the majority there is often an "us versus them" attitude against the white establishment.

So basically, what I'm trying to get at is that too intensive mathematical testing (yes, I know, it really isn't intensive, but...) that streams the quality of applicants into the police force inversely affects the diversity of said entrants which is, I would suspect, a far more important and practical issue.

Political correctness certainly has a lot to answer for, including the knee-jerk dismissal people nowadays will give to anything that sniffs vaguely of it.
