Hearts of Iron : Doomsday, technically a game about cold war, but starts at 1936 in the "gearing for war" scenario and you can try to play the second world war as events went being Germany.. Which I technically did, except I didn't lose the second world war in 1945, but kept pushing it on all the way to the end of the game at January of 1954 during which time, the Soviet Union got completely crushed... cold war never would of happened in my history! Oh, and not only that, also England got crushed, France, Australia, New Zealand, Iraq, the Allied colonies in Afrika, India, everything! I turned germany into a superpower. (my global production power of equipment was 2 times that of the USA at their best! which is how I managed to take foothold on their continent :P You can't beat someone who never runs out of troops, when you can't do the same!)

You can play any country actually, Argentina for example... or Estonia! But I played Estonia once, and it was terrible, Russia steamrollered me less than a year after the pact with Germany! It's only fun to play a strong country, such as Germany or England, or maybe France (other obvious ones aside), as then you can produce enough war gear to actually do something, like conquer the world.. not sit on your lap of land and twiddle your thumbs as other countries enjoy war with eachother.

That game does require patience becase it's very slow paced overall.. But it's not all that much about war, war is EXPENSIVE, and I mean really expensive. The only reason I can wage war as germany and conquer stuff without any problems is because I have production capability which beats any other country in the world, but if I didn't.. I'd probably be screwed considering Germany wasn't fighting a defensive war! Once the logistics capability gets stretched out the war grinds to a halt.
That game is pretty easy as strategy goes however, depending on your difficulty setting. The thing is your units do not die, unless under severe attrition so you can use one tank division or army for over 20 years if you keep it out of trouble (like getting surrounded) and that's one of the coolest things about a strategy game ever.

If you are a democratic country you can't even declare war to anyone unless they are like satans backyard on earth (for example germany after they annex half of europe)

I swear to god I've spent way too many hours on that game. If you play it, like 10 hours feels like 5 minutes.
Started a new game too, because the previous screenshot was from an "Expired" game so I couldn't play it any longer

Check it, 4 years earlier and a "winning" campaign against USA instead of a stalemate. I guess attacking them from the mexican border was a sounder choise strategically.... though I can't say I actually had a choise. Those fools saw my islands like bermuda and newfoundland and built all their shore areas around north and central america full of coastal defense and divisions! No Norfolk for me. Those bastards

"winning" = close to losing because forces are stretched out by the huge land. On the bright side, USA has nice infrastructure so my tanks can advance and retreat fast, compared to Russia and Afrika with their pathetically low infrastructure, this is a pushover.
Lesson learned? On the road, cars are faster than walking! Go go mechanized infantry and tanks

Yes, actually the whole area is rebelling strongly now that I have it. But I was expecting this, it's nothing a large number of panzer korps does not fix! Unlike democracy, if people protest or rebel in an authoritarian country like Germany, they get steamrollered with tanks not a bunch of officers with batons. It might not be stable, but the factories work and the resources are harvested fueling the infernal reich war machine!

Fun fact, I have liberated a huge ammount of the countries I conquered as puppet nations, which did not contain resources and factories I found neccesary. USA could be liberated into smaller countries, like California and Texas.. I think that might be fun once I'm done with world domination and won't need the resources and factories.

And you are right, it is usually very difficult to obtain control over large territories, but I was wrong when I said I was stretched out bad. You should of seen the forces of USA, they were stretched even worse and a huge number of their forces was on islands like Hawaii and the small ones near Japan. I got them with the pants down lol
However.. USA despite being large is not actually a particulary tough nation to conquer if you have enough forces to pull it off.. The infrastructure there is good, like I already mentioned and the climate is decent. A large number of airfields and good roads means air support will always be available and movement will be fast. Plus it's harder to defend a empty plain than it is to steamroll the guy defending it.

In this scenario I had annexed China, the major industrial regions of Russia, England, Australia(Japan annexed them), New Zealand.. and all but 2-3 countries in europe were my territory or my ally. So in this situation.. Germany had more than twice the production power of the whole enemy Alliance put together including what was left of France, USA, etc. Also had no fronts open where forces were needed, CCCP was at peace and they didn't have any forces left to attack with after the war with me... So it was the perfect setup for invasion
Realistically, this is an impossible scenario for even the 50s. but.. who knows, maybe Hitler really was that close to world domination.

Now a days this would be even more impossible! The reason is that there is no other country in the world that has the PERFECT scenario setup as germany did thanks to Hitler in the eve of II world war.
That and US has nuclear weapons along with a strong military. So a war would be a lose-lose situation. I certainly doubt the nuclear bombs would go unusued in the event of a war.

The problem in USA is this : civilians are getting more and more liberties taken away from them, specially concerning firearms (not in all states ofcourse). Rise up against opressor perhaps, but if your own government has neutered you from any arms it's not gonna be very effective considering the oppressor is both armed and trained. Theoretically speaking, a squad of 100000 soldiers could subdue millions of revolters. After the local military is defeated it's somewhat hopeless--
