So some of you may know I got a promotion at work that I've been 'training' for all week. I am now a front end manager at the grocery store. This means I'm in charge of all the cashiers and 'service clerks' (baggers). I send people on their breaks, handle price checks, call the grocery department if a customer has a question about a specific item, etc. This promotion also means I have the wonderful job of dealing directly with the Customer Service Manager. She is horrible at making the schedule, never having enough people working at a time. She tends to schedule some (part time) people for over 40 hours a week, while other part timers get zero or very few hours.
This morning myself and another front end manager received 2 sick calls and found one from last night. We decided we'd need to call someone to try and make up those hours. Ironically the first person we called had been called by the Customer Service Manager last night, and had agreed to work the exact hours we wanted her to work. This wasn't noted anywhere. It was not in the computer. The computer controls payroll. DUh.....
This morning we noticed the CSM was 20 minutes late. We started laughing, then called the store manager to let him know she wasn't in yet. He told us she'd changed her schedule and would be coming in from 2-10 instead of 9:30-whatever. This wasn't noted anywhere, either.
We noticed a small problem with next Thursdays schedule. The store opens at 7am. There is one cashier scheduled for 7am. No baggers. I'm the only front end manager in the morning, and I'm not scheduled until 8am. The CSM has every Thursday off. The new woman who starts Monday and is sort of a front end manager/assistant to the CSM and works whenever the CSM isn't working....also has Thursday off. WTF?
There's more, but having worked 46 hours this week (and today was insanely busy) I need to sleep. I'm scheduled for a nice 9 hour shift on an express register tomorrow, because fuck if I'm running the front on a Sunday when I've been doing it less than a week.
Oh, and I'm scheduled to run the front from 1:30-10 next Saturday, the day before the Superbowl. Fuck. Me. I'm not sure when the other F.E.M.s are going home on Saturday, but it's either 3:30 or 6. Either way it'll be too busy for me to take a break after they go home.
