Short Sharp Imaginative Writing (SSIW) is a regular prose and poetry competition that challenges you to improve your writing skills by cutting down on wordiness and finding creative ways to approach subjects you otherwise might not think to write about. Every two weeks, participants are asked to write a short story or poem on some set topic, within a fixed (tight!) word limit. At the end of the competition period, readers and writers vote to choose the winner in each category.
Entry is free, but submissions are limited to one prose entry and/or one poetry entry per competition round. While the main prize is the fun of participating, you will also receive constructive criticism of your entries and have the chance to help other entrants by providing feedback on their submissions. The winning pieces will also be show-cased at Mirabile Visu, the board which hosts the SSIW competition (as well as other writing activities), and entered into the SSIW Halls of Fame (poetry/prose).
