Remembrance.

It has been years since the creation of the board.

What are your favorite, or most prominent memories?

I never noticed until today that this board came together 12 days after 9-11.

What made you create this board, Uma? Why? What have been your joys, your downfalls, your hatreds and annoyances?

These are things I think about.

Well, basically I was lying down on the couch one night at about 11 pm when I had the idea for the board and for the name of it which I stole right from Virgil and Neil Gaiman. So it's inception was auspicious. I knew it would be a fantastic board.

My best memories are of each and every one of you. Talking with you, getting to know you, sharing our lives. There is not a one of you that I don't feel very close to and would miss if never seen again. Even if I don't see you all often it's good to know once in a while that everyone is ok and doing well.

That is what the new board will be for.

One of my most treasured memories is from right after I got here, when Michael was still new, and his 100th post was about mammaries. And the thread in which we decided

was a vibrating Christian.

I remember when we published the book of poetry and art from the people here; oh, the hours I spent putting it together into a nice order. I still have my copies of that book, and I still read it sometimes. Actually, I used it as a major prop in my Acting Scene Study midterm.

I remember every time I'd talk to someone from here on the phone. I should do that again.

I remember I came here because I got Dee on to ezboard and she followed Uma from Moonlit.

There are so many things cascading through my head now, heh. I've been here for years. I'll make the jump to the new boards eventually, I promise. I just need the impetus to settle in to a new account and a new place. I am resistant to change, at heart. Change to my routines anyways, I like good change. But little tiny changes make me itch, hehe. When I jump and I settle in, it'll be good.

I enjoyed the period when we had nightly chats, when I started talking to people and got to know who they are a little more. It's just been... full of awe, reading all these posts, half the time not even knowing what to reply with. I started posting three years ago, and I've changed a lot since then. It's almost comforting seeing others change- you don't really see that in real life, especially with people you see every day. It's been amazing, and I hope, despite all of Uma's musings about it just being a place for old friends to drop by, that H&I has a long, active future.

Tuesday is Soylent Green day.

I'm stinkin drunk at the moment, but I think that presents me with the perfect frame of mind to tell y'all what this board means to me...

I don't think I would be able to understand what 'Life' is about without this message borad.

The 'Dire Abode' was, for a year in my life (I'd say the the most important year in my life) the outlet for everything I felt... to bring it to something tangible... to transform into something that meant anything... and that made me into a real person. Without this board I would have just been this floating entity full of meaningless ideas, but with the people I met here I managed to make my thoughts into something that really meant something.

Without you guys I would be nothing. I would just be this floater, this guy trying to fit in with the cool kids in my school. Without people like Uma, Dave, Jinn, Crianca, Ditte, The Gov... I wouldn't have discovered what I really am. Artistically, musically, socially. And I value you all so much for that. You have played SUCH an important part in my life. I cannot overstate what you all mean to me.

Uma, you gave me this FORUM, not just a forum in that internet sense of the word, but forum in the social and philosophical way, to turn me from a boy to a man. And I will never be able to thank you enough. For 3 years this... this... abstract idea of a place has been the best thing in my life. It has made me what I am today. I came here first, introduced by Maugnan Ra (Nate!) when I was 13 and I am now (basically) leaving here as a 17 year old feeling that I have learned everything I know from this place. I have said it already... but... I cannot say it enough... I have learned everything from this board.

Moments that stick out?

Frenzy. When I posted there. Those were good times. When it was just a place to converse with your friends. You were all the people who kept me sane, when none of my "real" friends understood me... you were all there to reassure me that everything I thought was valid and real. It was 2 years of happiness. I mean, you can look in that "endless rant" thread in Dire and understand how incredibley unhappy I was, but you can then peer into Frenzy to see the other side, and see what else I could feel.

That thread in Archi when everyone was talking about who they respected most. And Uma, Dave, the Gov, Ditte and others mentioned me... And I felt that I actually had something to give to the world. Without that? Jesus! Would I even be alive!

TWT, Dave, Uma, the Gov, Ditte, Crianca, Allen, PFC Wintergreen (whose name I later discovered came from Catch 22- an excellent book which taught me a lot), Smokey, Jinn, Nonesuch Solo... This board introduce me to those people. People who I will never forget. People who I may not have actually conversed with properly, but people whose comments I read. People who taught me almost everything I know.

This comment: overly sentimentalised?

Maybe.

But I really believe that this board taught me what it is to be a real human being, to be a real person, to live a real life. And if I am not able to continue this internet life as "mediumrare" on the later incarnations of The Gates of Horn and Ivory remember that Michael Weir loves you so so much.

But maube he's an emo fag.

*sniff* Miguel...you are incredible. You are so articulate, so thoughtful, I could go on and on about your atributes. I remember so vividly how struck I was with the similarities of some of our thoughts. It's so astounding to know that there is someone out there with the same way of thinking about things as myself. That is rare...and potent! I remember many things about you. And what you have written here, well, it's just phenomenal.

I have to make it so that somehow we don't get lost from each other. I will try to always have a place where even if we don't go often, we know we can go and take a dip in the purple.
